The Bourbon Boys -

Meet Al, Larry, Kenny, "and Joe too" known collectively as The Bourbon Boys.  Their middle name is "Bourbon" but they will taste and report on any American whiskey.

The Bourbon Boys are a group of bourbon aficionados who write about bourbon, rate bourbon, educate people on bourbon and most of all love to drink bourbon.  The Bourbon Boys always taste test bourbon blind with other bourbons of the same proof and age, "naked and in a snifter" - (the bourbon is naked, not The Bourbon Boys, at least this is what we think).  When they test this way they don’t know which brands they’re drinking and they compare each against the other and form their opinions before knowing which brands they are reviewing.  This system allows for a very pure, fair and uninfluenced means of arriving at an honest assessment of the characteristics of a whiskey.

The Bourbon Boys can be contacted at info@bourbonboys.org and are in the process of constructing their website.

80 Strong
Kentucky Bourbon
Tasted Up Against:  Jack Daniels, Beam's Choice & Wild Turkey

"...smooth & velvety..."  "...finish is soft and the sweetness lingers pleasantly..."  "...holds its own against nationally ranked brands..."

Tasting Scores:  80 Strong = 88;  Jack Daniels = 85;  Beams Choice = 82;  Wild Turkey = 80

Hudson
Rye
Tasted Up Against:  Pikesville Supreme 4 Yr; Sazerac 6 yr; Old Potrero 4yr

Clearly this rye is in good company.  For a 3-4 month old whiskey to hold its own against 4-6 year old competition is remarkable. We were impressed with its distinct nose, pleasant oily taste and its mellow finish. We picked up strong notes of bitter chocolate. The numbers work out to  between a "Good/Recommend" to "Highly Recommend".

Tasting Scores:  Hudson Rye = 91; Old Potrero 4 yr = 92; Sazerac 6 yr = 88; Pikesville Supreme 4yr = 83

Hudson
4-Grain Bourbon
Tasted Up Against: Ezra Brooks 4yr; Very Old Barton 6 yr; Maker's Mark; Corner Creek 4-Grain 8 yr

Distinctive non-bourbon nose-some rye spice but under notes of scotch like mustiness. The flavor surprises with its unfamiliar unconventional impressions of rye and scotch. The taste lingers after the long finish, challenging preconceived notions of what bourbon should taste like.  It is altogether pleasant and a change from the ordinary. We recommend this bourbon to anyone who wants to expand their horizons and sample the difference of a 4 grain mashbill.

Tasting Scores:  Hudson 4-Grain = 88; Ezra Brooks 4yr = 81; Very Old Barton 6yr = 87; Maker's Mark = 92; Corner Creek 8yr = 88
