Coquito originated in Puerto Rico. It is a rum-based coconut cream liqueur made with coconut, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, egg yokes and rum. It is consumed throughout the Caribbean, particularly by Puerto Rican and Cuban people.
While traditionally consumed between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, the seasonality of this drink is due primarily to the labor-intensive recipe. Now that Mi Abuelita (my Granny’s) pre-mixed Coquito is available, and it is spot-on authentic tasting, you can enjoy it year round.
Abuelita is perfect for after dinner as an alternative to Bailey’s. Also, mix it with Cognac or brandy for a unique flavor and extra “kick.” For summer, blend it on ice with brandy or Cognac.
My two cents: This Coquito truly tastes like homemade - Granny style!
