Cachaca Fazenda Mae De Ouro is a smooth estate bottled spirit in the rum family (from Brazil) but made from sugar cane juice rather than molasses. Lighter and with a softer flavor than rum, it is the perfect mixed with fresh fruit juices or muddled with a lime and sugar as a caipirinha, the classic Brazilian cocktail.
My 2-cents: The owner of Fazenda Mae De Ouro, "Cachaca Dave" is a friend of mine and I've been to quite a few tastings where he whips up batches of the most awesome caipirinhas I've ever tasted. Included with every purchase of Mae De Ouro is a muddler (which is a kind of wooden pestel that is used to mash up the ingredients) and his recipe for the perfect caipirinha. Try this out, it's exotic and delicious and it really gets the party started!
